    Biography

    Dr. Yarnell is a noted authority specializing in men’s health, urinary tract problems (in men & women), and kidney problems (in men & women). Dr. Yarnell’s goal is to provide extraordinary, personalized care for his patients, working to not only relieve symptoms as he can, but also to find the causes behind the symptoms.

    As a professor teaching these subjects to medical students and doctors for over 20 years, he is much sought after for his expertise.  He is also one of the preeminent practitioners and teachers of herbal medicine.

    Dr. Yarnell graduated from Bastyr University in 1996. He completed a two-year residency with Silena Heron, ND, in Sedona, Arizona, working in naturopathic family care and herbal medicine.  He went on to work as chair of the department of botanical medicine at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona for a year and a half. Until recently, Dr. Yarnell was a full professor in the department of botanical medicine at Bastyr University, where he has taught for over 15 years.  He has recently stepped down to adjunct professor to focus more time on his research.

    Dr. Yarnell received a training grant through Bastyr University and funded by the National Institutes of Health (grant R25AT002876) to complete a basic certificate in clinical research at the University of Washington. His research on the herbal compound artemisinin in men with prostate cancer was published in 2015 in the Journal of Restorative Medicine. His current research includes:

    • Herbal treatments for drug-resistant urinary tract infections
    • Herbal treatments for polycystic kidney disease
    • Historical vs. current efficacy of diuretic herbs

    Dr. Yarnell has published hundreds of articles about urology, herbal medicine, and related fields.  He has also published numerous textbooks, including his most recent titles Natural Approach to Urology (2nd ed), Natural Approach to Prostate Conditions (2nd ed), and Natural Approach to Gastroenterology (2nd ed), volumes 1 and 2. Dr. Yarnell is also internationally known and respected, and has lectured to health care practitioners around the world.
